Currently Reading- Montessori: A Modern Approach

Do you sense a theme here? I am really interested in the Montessori Method and teaching and have been reading everything I can about it lately. This book is an over view of Maria Montessori's method. It covers the history, philosphy, "method" , her view on parent involvement and how learning to read and write works in a well run montessori classroom. While the book is titled a "Modern approach" the book was actaully written in the 70s. I would like to see this one updated with current research included. But it has been an interesting read and I am almost finished with it.

Another Finish- Montessori- The Science behing the Genius

This was a very interesting read and I would recommend it to any one who is looking at Montessori schooling for their kids, or to teachers and adminstrator who would like even more reasons for parents to send their kids to a Montessori school. It spells out just what sets a Montessori ( a well run, authentic Montessori) school apart from traditional schools and the current research that backs up why most Montessori schools are so successful teaching all types of children. I highly recommend this book.

Spellbinder is finished

Not a spectacular book but it was a fun read and I will probably go and get the next book in the series once I have finished the books on my to read list. I do hope the author goes back her other series so though.

Spellbinder by Melanie Rawn

Ok, since I gave up on Mad Ship I decided to read Spellbinder by Melanie Rawn. I have looked at this book for several years probably and haven't read it becuase it is a fantasy set in modern New York and I usually prefer my fanatasy to be completely unreal. But I really like Melanie Rawn and since it appears that she isn't writing anything new in the near future. I decided to try it anyways. I started it while taking a nice hot bath and so far I really like it. Nothing deep or anything, just escapist fun. Just what I like in my fiction books.

Gave up on Mad Ship

Unsual for me since I really feel strongly about finishing books that I start but I guess as I get older I have decided that if I really don't enjoy the book why keep reading? There are many other books out there.

With this book I just couldn't get into the story or the characters. None of them were sympathetic at all and I really need at least on character that I could like.

Another New Start- Ship of Magic Robin Hobb

I have really enoyed books by Robin Hobb in the past so I thought I would try this series. Here is the description from the back of the book curtesy of Barnes and Noble.

Bingtown is a hub of exotic trade and home to a merchant nobility famed for its liveships--rare vessels carved from wizardwood, which ripens magically into sentient awareness. The fortunes of one of Bingtown's oldest families rest on the newly awakened liveship Vivacia. For Althea Vestrit, the ship is her rightful legacy unjustly denied her--a legacy she will risk anything to reclaim. For Althea's young nephew Wintrow, wrenched from his religious studies and forced to serve aboard ship, Vivacia is a life sentence. But the fate of the Vestrit family--and the ship--may ultimately lie in the hands of an outsider. The ruthless pirate Kennit seeks a way to seize power over all the denizens of the Pirate Isles...and the first step of his plan requires him to capture his own liveship and bend it to his will....

New Start- Montessori- The Science Behind the Genius Angeline Stoll Lillard

I like to start two books, one fiction and one non-fiction. My new non-fiction book will be Montessori- The Science Behind the Genius Angeline Stoll Lillard. My daughter goes to a wonderful Montessori School here in Idaho Falls and I am really want to learn more about the method and how/why it works so well for so many. I also plan to complete the training someday to be a Montessori Teacher so I figure the more I read now, the less I will have to read later.

Finished two books

I have finished two books this weekend. One was Michelle Sagaro's Cast in Secret. Total fluffy but enjoyable fluf. I will be buy the next book, Cast in Fury next weekend when my DD6 has a Barnes and Noble book fair.

The second book I finished was the Duck Tape Marketing. A very imformative book. I plan on going back and do the whole system for my Digital Eye Chart and DD6 school.

Another new book- Cast in Secret by Michelle Saragaro

Ok, so this book isn't exactly the best written but so far these stories have been fun to read and I need something other than the Marketing book.

Another Finish- The Bell at Sealey Head

I finished another book the other day. I read two really good books in a row. It has been a while since that has happend. I really enjoyed this book. McKillip always has great stories that really draw you into the characters and even after I don't know how many books, her stuff still feels like a different story each time. Great book and I would highly recommend it to any one.

New book to start-Duct Tape Marketing by John Janysch

Well, I just can't get through the Myths right now so I am going to start a new non-fiction book. This one is about marketing. I really need to improve my marketing for Digital Eye Chart and Snake River Montessori. So I will start this one tonight.

Next Book- The Bell at Sealy Head by Patricia McKillip

This is another author that I always enjoy and this time all of her stoyies are distinctly different. I actually started this one before Christmas and left it at my parents house. So I had started another book in the meantime, Heir to Sevewaters. Now that is done so I am off to finish this one.
Here is a short summary from the Barnes and Noble bookstore web site.
An unseen bell haunts a seaside town and a magical mansion in this delicate fable from World Fantasy Award winner McKillip (Od Magic). Inside the baffling Aislinn House, young chambermaid Emma, opening an ordinary cabinet door, might find a rack of towels or encounter knights, crows and a lonely princess. As Lady Eglantyne, the ancient matron of the house, lies dying, her long-lost grand-niece is sent for. The townspeople are delighted by wealthy, city-bred Miranda Beryl, but suspicious of her eagerness to make herself at home and inherit the house-spellbound bell and all. Meanwhile, vacationing academic Ridley Dow's interest in Aislinn House hints at another motive for his visit to the village beside the ocean. Romantic intrigue and touches of this fantastic make this light mystery an easy and pleasant read. (Sept.)

First Finish of the Year- The Heir to Sevenwaters.

Boy did this book end well. It has been awhile since I have wanted to sit down and do nothing but finish a book and this one did that. While the over all story line is similiar to her other books, I just really loved these characters and wanted to know what happened next. I believe there will be more with these characters. I hope she doesn't skip generations like she did with her last series. I think there is more than enough story left with the current characters.

I would recommend this book! Every entertaining and that is all I ask for!

Updates

After a slow start, Heir to Sevenwaters is starting to get really good. Too bad I am on a strict diet for 10 more pounds or I would pop some popcorn with LOTS of butter (hence the no-no on the diet) and read it until it is done. I really like this author's stuff.

As for the Myths, it is a slow go. I forgot how hard the old style of writing can be to read. Especially at 11:00!

I am thinking about putting this one aside for one of the two books I just got from Barnes and Nobels. Montessori- The Science Behind the Genius and The Montessori Method- A Modern Approach. I am trying to read everything I can about her since I plan on becoming a Montessori teacher eventually. But I think I will continue to slog through the myths.

My Current Audiobook- A Clash of Kings by George RR Martin

These books have been pretty good if depressing. Nothing good ever happens to anyone in these books it seems like. This is the 3rd book in the series I think. It might be the fourth.

Heir To Sevenwaters- Juliet Marillier

This is my current entertainment book. I started it after I left my other current book, The Bell at Sealy Head at my mom's house. So far it is pretty good but I haven't gotten too far with it. It is a continuation of the Sevenwater Clan that is also seen in her first series of books. I'll post more when I finish.

Greek Myths- Started 1/1/09

This is my current "thought" book. I try to read one book that needs some thought and one book that is just for entertainment. I have read this book before in college but don't remember much of the stories so I thought I would read it again. I might get totally bored with it though and move on to something else. We'll see.
